At the Rising Stars Bedfordshire and Luton Business Excellence Awards 2011 last night, Showtrax International Ltd of Sharnbrook, Bedfordshire, were Highly Commended and Runners Up of the 'The Green Business of the Year Award'. The entire event was sponsored by Barclays Bank.
Accepting the Award, Technical Sales Director, Alistair Frary acknowledged that this had been achieved initially as a result of the work that the company had done in LED technology. However, in more recent times, led by certain members of staff, the company have collectively started to recycle almost 95% of its waste. It has also instigated certain procedures to eliminate wasted energy. As a result, this was a continuing project that had motivated the entire workforce to become involved and develop a real pride in their efforts.
In the latest of a number of initiatives, however, Showtrax International have formed 'partnerships' with 2 local schools and are supplying 'waste' graphic materials for the children to use. The schools are then recycling those same materials again, under their own schemes.
In a separate project, Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge have chosen Showtrax International as one of the first companies in the UK to take part in the Green Impact Award Scheme. Initially this scheme has been used and trialled in Universities across the United Kingdom. Proving to be extremely successful, it has now been decided to start trials within the commercial sector and The CMC Group, to which Showtrax International belong, have agreed to participate.
Within a very short period of time, Showtrax International, have been able to demonstrate that making changes to the way the company handles its waste and energy is very easily achievable. This has not only made a significant impact to the companys' own carbon footprint, but in day to day activity, is already saving the business, hundreds of pounds. This philosophy is now being actively promoted towards the work the company does within the Motorsport Industry.
At the Awards, speaking about the work that Showtrax International has achieved, Simon Howard, Managing Director of Premier Newspapers remarked that Showtrax International were setting standards that other companies should aspire to and begin to introduce into their own workplaces.
